Flor Flores: mirror moment
Exhibition

Flor Flores: mirror moment

Flor Flores Artist Walk-Through: Thursday, November 6, 6:00p.m. - 8:00p.m. Exhibition open from October 16 to November 22 Ralph Arnold Gallery.

Flor Flores: mirror moment is an exhibition of new and recent works by transdisciplinary artist and poet Flor Flores. The artist鈥檚 process of creating these paintings, drawings, sculptures, poems, and textile-based installations centers on a caring and poetic channeling of Kiki, a butterfly. The artist has recently lifted divisions previously existing between the multiple artforms, noting this was possible after 鈥淜iki showed me the way鈥. Folding, holding, flapping, flitting, touching, and shifting are actions Flor has learned from the butterfly, creating a new playground for experimentation and transformation with their own shifting body and identities. RSVP for a walk-through of the exhibition with artist Flor Flores on November 6 at Ralph Arnold Gallery.

A Brazilian documentary called "Saudades do Rio Doce (Missing Rio Doce)" will be shown at Loyola as part of a larger MOSTRA: Brazilian Films in Chicago festival. The film focuses on community organizing in the aftermath of the Mariana dam disaster in Brazil in 2015. This was by far the largest environmental disaster in Brazil's history, and one of the most severe mining dam disasters in the world. It impacted almost a million people downstream from the dam, including indigenous communities, communities of people descended from runaway slaves, and small-scale farmers and fishers, and caused likely irreparable environmental harm, much of which continues today. // DATE: November 10th (Monday) // VENUE: Loyola University Damen Student Center Theater, 6511 N.
